Awards and decorations of the Republic of Indonesia are both military and civilian awards for service and personal contributions to the Republic of Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Constitution, Chapter III Article 15: "The President grants designations, awards, and other distinctions that regulated by state acts". Awards and decorations of the Republic of Indonesia are divided into two categories, Stars and Medals.

The Star of the Republic of Indonesia consists of 5 classes: 1st Class "Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna" 2nd Class "Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipradana" 3rd Class "Bintang Republik Indonesia Utama" 4th Class "Bintang Republik Indonesia Pratama" 5th Class "Bintang Republik Indonesia Nararya" Bintang Mahaputera / Star of Mahaputera (BMP) The "Star of Mahaputera" is awarded to a person who has given extraordinary service to the Motherland in certain areas outside the military. The Star of Mahaputera is the second highest decoration awarded by the Government of The Republic of Indonesia.
