OpCon is the job scheduler and IT automation product from Software & Management Associates (SMA).[1] Since its first release in 1995 it had been called OpCon/xps (OPerations CONtrol/Cross(X) Platform Scheduler). With the release of Version 5 in 2011, with a completely new user interface, SMA decided to rename the product to just OpCon.

About SMA

Software and Management Associates is a privately-held software development company that was founded in 1980. SMA is headquartered in Houston, Texas and has offices and partners around the world. SMA's first automation product was 'The Scheduler' which was released in the early 1980's and was the most widely-used job scheduling tool for the Unisys (formerly Sperry Univac)OS2200 EXEC Operating System. SMA works with some of the largest companies in the world in the banking, credit union, wealth management, oil and gas, communications, entertainment, and retail sectors, along with several local, state, and federal government agencies and other vertical markets.

Architecture

OpCon/xps uses a Microsoft SQL Server database to store its data repository. The GUI is a fat client connecting to the database. A web-browser-based User Interface is also available. The agents are connected through TCP/IP to the central Schedule Activity Monitor, which in turn connects to the database[2].

Platforms

Native-mode agents are available on these platforms:-.

  • Unix (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Tru64)
  • Linux (Debian, Gentoo, Red Hat, SUSE)
  • Microsoft (2003, 2008, XP, Vista)
  • Unisys (MAPPER BIS, MCP A-series, OS2200)
  • IBM (AIX, z/OS, z/VSE, IBMi - i5/OS, SUSE Luniz on zSeries)
  • SCO (Open Server, UnixWare)
  • Hewlett Packard (OpenVMS, Non Stop Tandem, HPUX)

Business Applications
