The Game
Online Football Manager is an on-line Internet management game in which you virtually manage and control your favorite football team. Not just against computer-controlled opponents, but against friends, family, or other players from all over the world! You can log in for a few minutes on a daily basis to prepare your squad for the next match. The matches will then be simulated by the engine, which creates a virtual world in which the football matches are played.
The goal is to get the best possible results out of the team available to the player, and prove themselves to be a better and more efficient manager than their opponents by winning a championship or accomplishing a certain goal preset by your team's board of directors.
Matches are automatically simulated, day by day, in a generic football season format.
History
Desktop Version
Version 1.0
In the year 2001, OFM was launched with a green lay-out, and the first match was played in the Netherlands. After two years (2003) the new website with the new blue lay-out was launched and started to grow fast in the Netherlands. In 2004 GameBasics was born with the intention to expand their products (which include OFM) to the rest of the world, and so the international version of OFM was released.
Version 2.0
After 10 years since Version 1, GameBasics developed a new version of OFM, and officially released Version 2 of Online Football Manager on the 17th July 2011. While Version 1 has been under development for 10 years, its foundation remained exactly the same until the end of 2010. This caused GameBasics to gradually lose momentum in OFM’s development. As the technical aspects aged, the speed at which GameBasics were capable of releasing updates decreased.
With Version 2, GameBasics have completely rebuilt OFM, and have introduced 73 new features to the game. These include: allowing a manager to switch between their Main account and SubAccount(s) without logging off, improved team selection, and new graphics . OFM Version 2 has allowed GameBasics to address the frequency of updates issue that was present in Version 1, and so a new "build" of OFM v2.0 is released frequently. As of 12th November 2011, the latest version of OFM v2.0 is build 7
Mobile Version
Version 1.0
As well as the desktop/computer version of OFM, GameBasics developed a mobile version of OFM, called OFM Mini. OFM Mini was launched on the 12th July 2007, and gave managers the ability to use the core features of OFM (e.g. manage the team, message other managers) from their mobile phones. With the release and popularity of smartphones such as the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry, GameBasics also developed and released an OFM app for the iPhone and Android phones.
Version 2.0
As with version 1 of the desktop version, OFM Mini's foundation remained the same since it's release, which meant that bugs and errors began to surface, particularly with the iPhone and Android apps. GameBasics developed a new mobile version of the game suitable for all phones that coincided with the release of OFM v2.0. OFM Mobile retained the same core functions that OFM Mini had, but was built from scratch, bringing it up to date with the latest mobile technology and also ensuring that GameBasics could provide updates to it easier than with OFM Mini
