Olympia High School is a school located in the middle of a cornfield, about three miles southwest of Stanford, Illinois, in McLean County. The school had a graduation rate in 2007 of 90.3%, a ratio the school's principal attributed to tough attendance regulations and after school programs. The towns in the Olympia Cusd. 16 School District include: Armington, Atlanta, Covell, Danvers, Hopedale, McLean, Minier, Stanford and Waynesville. Olympia is known for their outstanding baseball and softball teams who have won tons of state championships. Their marching band is very formal and are out to win this 2011-2012 school year. This year they are doing the field show NightWatch and their parade toon is Alive and Amplified. They are under the direction of Kyle Brubaker. Principal Lance Thurman has a strict policy on absences only allowing 8 absences a Semester excused or unexcused. The softball/baseball teams are #1 in the state and are excited to begin playing this season. The Spartan Football team is ready to get back on track from their horrible seasons in the past. You can see the Marching Spartans in action this year at almost every competition this year. They also perform at every parade in the school district. Olympia's most memorable class was the year of 2009, full of ambitious, but rambunctious students, lead especially by student Claire Keturi.[2]
