Founded in 1898,and established 1918. Okuma is a machine tool builder which has history of more than 100 years. Lathe is main commodities in the early days of company. Now, CNC Lathe, Machining Center(Milling machine) and CNC Grinder are mentioned as main product. Especially, Double-Column Machining Center has a large market share in Japan.
Technology
Okuma is the only company that has developed its own CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Controller and Servo motor. This is a strength that can support about both of comprehensive machine and controller, and it is said to "Single Source for Machine & Control" means Okuma's attitude toward the manufacturing.
CNC controller called "OSP Series" is Okuma unique advanced software. OSP is a abbreviation for “Okuma Sampling Path”. It is the largest characteristic that has adopted “absolute position feedback system” as a positioning system.
New technology development is encouraged in particular. It is pioneer in correction for thermal deformation by “structural designing for manageable deformation control” (Thermo-Friendly Concept), interference confirmation for stopping the machine before damaging itself (Collision Avoidance System).
Moreover, "chatter stopping" function called “Machining Navi” is Okuma’s new technology. It can manage machining by analyzing machining conditions with chattering detection by capturing noise from machining, and calculating optimum machining conditions. Changing automatically to spindle speed would lead to efficient production as a result.
