Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche (1932-1999) was a Tibetan lama born in the Derge region of Kham.[1][2]
At age five, Rinpoche joined a Sakya monastery where he began his Buddhist studies.[1] At age seventeen, he studied Longchen Nyingthig teachings[1] and Dzogchen[2] at the Nyoshul monastery.[1] In 1959, when he was twenty seven, he fled to India as the Chinese invaded Tibet.[3][1]
In India, Rinpoche studied under Dudjom Rinpoche,[3] Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche[3] and the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa.[1]
Some of Rinpoche's students include Lama Surya Das[4][5] and Sogyal Rinpoche.[6]
