Nottingham Elementary School is a primary school (or "elementary school") in Nottingham Forest, Houston, Texas. It is part of the Spring Branch Independent School District. It was constructed in 1968 along with the neighborhood in which it is located. The school has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon school, an award which is given to approximately 300 schools across the United States each year. It is considered the highest possible reward a school can earn from the federal government. In 2009 the Texas Education Agency ranked the school as "Recognized"[1] rating from the Texas Education Agency. "Recognized" is considered above average and is the second highest rating. It has been "Recognized" every year since the current system was established in 2005. In previous years, under TEA's previous ranking system, the school often received the highest "Exemplary" rating.

History

Nottingham was constructed in 1968 to serve the sudden population boom in the surrounding area.

In 2003, the school received a gym, which it lacked before, and walled classrooms - originally, Nottingham's walls were office dividers and bookcases, as the main building lacked any rooms. In addition, the track bordering the field inside it was downsized to make way for the new library. The renovations were completed by the start of the 2003 - 2004 school year.

In 2008, the playground (dating to 1979) was rebuilt with new equipment. Hurricane Ike managed to topple a tree in the back of the campus grounds.
