Its most important features are the Postojna Cave and the intermittent Lake Cerknica. It is one of the smallest regions of Slovenia and is the least densely populated. It represents only 2% of Slovenia’s national GDP.
The region includes the following municipalities: Bloke, Cerknica, Ilirska Bistrica, Loška Dolina, Pivka, Postojna
It has an total area of 1456 km².
