Playing career
Marchand grew up playing his minor hockey in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area and played his Midget hockey with the Dartmouth Subway Midget AAA club before being a 2nd round pick in the 2004 QMJHL Midget Draft.
Marchand scored his first NHL goal against Jhonas Enroth of the Buffalo Sabres on November 3, 2010.
Marchand has represented Canada twice in the 2007 and the 2008 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, bringing home gold each time.
Marchand established himself as a two-way threat for the Bruins during the 2010–11 season. Marchand scored 21 goals while maintaining a plus/minus far above zero, including being a short handed scoring threat, scoring five short handed goals, the third best total in the entire league for the regular season.[2]
On April 2, 2011, prior to the Bruins' game against the Atlanta Thrashers, Marchand was awarded the Bruins "7th Player Award" as voted by the club's fans through the regional New England Sports Network (NESN). The award goes to that Bruin player fans believe best exemplifies the player performing most beyond expectations.
Marchand scored 2 goals in Game 7 vs the Canucks en route to his first Stanley Cup. He had 11 goals in 2011 Playoffs tied with Jeremy Roenick for second most for a rookie in the NHL all time.
The Bruins signed Marchand to a two-year contract, announced on September 14, 2011.[3]
Personal
Brad has taken on the moniker of "Nose Face Killah", which is a play on the stage name of rapper Ghost Face Killah. The nickname had gained a lot of steam during Boston's 2011 playoff run.[4] Brad is known to do his post-game interviews wearing a shirt with the nickname and logo on it. The nickname was coined and made popular by the website "Barstool Sports." Marchand has also been referred to as "Marshmont" which came from a caller known as "Rick from Natick" mispronouncing his name on the Felger and Mazz show on 98.5 FM The Sports Hub in Boston. Among his Bruins teammates, Marchand is known as "Honey Badger."[5]
Brad received a tattoo following the Bruins' Stanley Cup victory, unintentionally misspelled "Stanley Cup Champians".[6] The spelling error has since been fixed.[7]
In 2011, Marchand was named one of "The 25 Most Stylish Bostonians" by Boston.com.[8]
