She is best known for her roles on Punky Brewster and the long-running situation comedy show Family Matters, where she plays Laura Winslow's best friend Maxine "Max" Johnson. In 2009, she wrote, starred and produced the independent film I Do... I Did!, playing Vivian. Johnson has so far produced eight films.[1] In 2010, she made writer debut when she released her book Around The World Twice. In 2011, she released her second, writing Two Different Walks Of Life "A Celebrity and a Average Housewife", which explains her life as an actress. She is currently working on her third novel Peaches & Cream and is starring in the romantic drama film Fanaddict, set to be released sometime in late 2011.

Early career
Born in Pittsburgh, Johnson is African American and Puerto Rican. Her earlier roles was on the sitcom's Punky Brewster and Family Matters.
Film career
On Punky Brewster Johnson starred as Cherie Johnson, a character named and modeled after herself. She was the best friend of the title character, played by Soleil Moon Frye. She played the role throughout the series' run (1984–1986 and 1987–1988). On Family Matters, Johnson portrayed the recurring role of Maxine, the best friend of Laura Winslow (Kellie Shanygne Williams). Johnson played the role from 1990 to 1998. In addition to her starring roles, she has made guest appearances on The Parkers, and The Proud Family. She has also appeared on the soap opera Days of our Lives. She has produced many films over the past 10 years. In 2009 she wrote, starred and produced the film I Do... I Did! it got premiered on BET. In 2010 she starred in the films Lights Out, Nobody Smiling and Guardian of Eden. As of 2011 she is currently starring in the romantic drama film Fanaddict set to be release sometime in the fall.
Writer
She has a seven book deal. Her first book, Around The World Twice, is out now. She released a poetry book with her co-writer of feature film 'I Do...I Did! titled "Two Different Walks Of Life" 4/12/11 and her sophomore novel "Peaches & Cream" is set to debut late 2011 early 2012. Writing has become her second career choice she is a contributing writer for Temptation Magazine, and Glam Couture Magazine where she does a monthly article titled "Cherry Picking". Cherie also holds the position of editor-at-large at Success News Paper.

Editor and Co-host
Cherie is the Editor at Large for "Success News" and that she also has a column in "Glam Couture Magazine" called Cherry Picking about beauty products. She has a monthly column in Temptation Magazine as well as Houston, Los Angeles, Georgia, Dallas, Louisiana 411 magazines and co-host a sports radio show with Penny Hardaway and Charles Oakley which is thebottomlinesportsshow.com.[1]
Personal life
Johnson is the real life niece of TV producer David W. Duclon, who was responsible for starting her career. Cherie joined Shadow Play Entertainment's literacy campaign called TAKE TIME TO READ as the national spokesperson, sharing her thoughts on why reading is so important no matter what your career. Cherie has said that favorite artists are Prince and Dr. Dre and she is currently looking out for Dr. Dre's upcoming album Detox.[2] She has also stated that she is a big sports fanatic and her favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and that she is a fan of NBA player Paul Pierce.[2][1] During a interview Cherie described herself as somewhat of a nerd and a homebody and that she loves to read, write, paint, eat and travel. She also stated she doesn't watch any TV or many movies but she loves music and her family.[1] She has also stated she is somewhat of a twitterholic.[1]
Community Involvment
Cherie spends her free time working with many children charities and she is also on the Alzheimer’s Association board.[1]
