Noradehi Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest wildlife century of Madhya Pradesh.[1] It is almost centrally located in the state covering parts of Sagar, Damoh, Narsinghpur, and Raisen Districts.
This forest area, covering about 1034 km2 was made a sanctuary in 1975. Its flora consisits of typical central Indian Monsoon forests, which include Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest. Major trees found are teak, saal, tendu, mahua etc. Spotted grey creep, a rare bird, is also found here. Besides during winter season it serves as an abode for migratory birds.
Though the park is open for 8 months from November to June, best time to visit is winters i.e. November to February when its not too hot and trees are still green. Come march these deciduous trees begin to shed their leave for a hot summer season. The sanctuary closes with arrival of Monsoon in July till October to give trees and animals full time to replenish.
Jabalpur or Bhopal can be convenient bases to explore the sanctuary, which also happen to have airports. Railheads include Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur.
