It is named in affiliation with Nishtar Medical College.The majority of the degrees it awards are (BDS) and (FCPS). Nishtar Institute of Dentistry has a very rich heritage of academic and clinical excellence. The new building of the college was commissioned in July 2009.
It provides dental health services primarily to the city of Multan and its surrounding areas. In order to keep pace with the most modern technology, the latest equipment and instruments are continuously being added to maintain educational levels in conformity with international standards.The existing departments are being upgraded and new departments are being established. Practical training in clinics starts during the third year and students rotate amongst various departments within the field of dentistry.The courses in basic and allied medical subjects are taken at Nishter Medical College.

History
The Dental Section of Nishtar Medical College started functioning in 1974. Then it was located on the first floor of the Out Patients Department of Nishtar Hospital. The Dental Section had its own principal and staff, but overall, the principal reported to the principal of Nishtar Medical College. The dental section became independent in 2008 and was inaugurated by the then chief minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Shareef. Now the college houses in its own purposely built building and has its own head and medical superintendent.
Affiliation
- The college was initially affiliated with University of the Punjab Lahore, the only university in Punjab at that time.
- In 1975 it became affiliated with Bahauddin Zakariya University, a newly formed university for Southern Punjab.
- In January 2003 it became affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.[2]
Campus
The campus is located in the heart of the city centre. It is in some sense spacious and its sturdy building gives it a peculiar look with a quadrangle rising to its 5 floors. It houses various departments which include Oral and maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Prosthetics, Diagnostic, Conservative Dentistry and X-Ray and various labs. Adjacent to the campus is the Dental paramedical school and hostel.
Admission
A student is eligible to apply after Higher Secondary School Certification (HSSC)/A Level/Equivalent exam. Candidates are selected by a rigorous admission process that includes a competitive Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) conducted by University of Health Sciences Lahore and Merit is determined by the marks obtained in MCAT and Higher Secondary School Certification (HSSC)/A Level/Equivalent examination.
Student life
Students come from the province of Punjab and other parts of Pakistan, as well as from several other countries, including the US, Canada and the Middle East although a fair number of students are locally from Multan. There are separate hostels located on campus for male and female students.
Facilities on campus include a swimming pool, a basketball court, squash courts, football, hockey and cricket grounds, lawn tennis courts, table tennis, a badminton court and a jogging track. Nishtar's many student societies, clubs, and associations help meet the recreational and vocational needs of students, who bring with them a rich blend of extracurricular interests. Recognition
The college is recognized for undergraduate and post-graduate training by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council[4] and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.[5] Prof. Muhammad Pervaiz Iqbal Phd, the current head is a member of Board of Studies, whereas previous head Prof. Mohammad Saeed FDSRCPS is the convener Board of Studies - Dentistry University of Health Sciences, Lahore[6]
