Nick Ashton-Hart was recently Director for At-Large[1] at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)[2] and currently Gerant of Consensus Optimus SARL.
He has more than 15 years of experience in international strategic policy development and intergovernmental negotiations in fields as diverse as sustainable unban development (UN Habitat II Conference, Istanbul, 1996 and preparatory conferences), Intellectual Property (WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights,[3] 2001–Present and the WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents,[4] 2008–present), and Internet Governance (at ICANN).
He has served as a Director and Managing Director of various companies in various market sectors during his professional career, including Executive Director of the International Music Managers Forum (IMMF),[5] the international non-governmental organisation representing the interests of music managers and their clients, the featured artist community.
He began his business career managing featured musical artists, such as James Brown (in partnership with Frank "Superfrank" Copsidas) and Heaven 17, which involved the practical application of intellectual property law and the management of people of diverse skill sets and backgrounds, projects with multi-million-dollar budgets and revenues, as well as complex negotiations of long-term recording, publishing, sponsorship, and other contractual arrangements. He retired from artist management in 2004.
He has spoken all over the world, in private and/or industry fora like Digital Hollywood[6] and MusicTank,[7] the Transatlantic Consumers Dialogue (TACD),[8][9] organs of government such as the Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Parliament,[10] and organs of the United Nations and its specialised agencies, most notably repeatedly during meetings of the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
