Newton is a town in the Rural District of the Western Area of Sierra Leone. The town is located 24 miles from Freetown. The population of the town is largely from the Krio ethnic group.The town of Newtown is named after British abolitionist John Newton [1]. Today there is a philanthropic link between John Newton's church of Olney and Newton in Sierra Leone.
