Nersisyan School (Armenian: Ներսիսյան դպրոց, Nersisyan dprots; Russian: Школа Нерсисян) was an Armenian school in Tiflis, Russian Empire (now Georgia). Nersisyan School existed exactly one century, from 1824 to 1924. It was founded by Nerses Ashtaraketsi.

History

In the 19th century Tiflis, with its large Armenian population, was an Armenian cultural center. There were many Armenian schools, and various magazines, drama and publishing associations, charities and nonprofit organizations. And Nersisyan School had its own special role in Eastern Armenian education. The main school building located in the "Soldatski bazar" Square. The school was officially opened on October 1, 1824.

In 1905 the school was destroyed in the bombing. Alexander Mantashev solved all the financial problems. And the new building was designed by a Russian-Armenian military architect Nikita Lazarev. The façade of the building was built of stone orange stone from Tsater (Lori) and Karahunj (Zangezur) villages. Alexander Mantashev spent 370,000 rubles during the construction of the new building. In front of the school stood statues of Nerses Ashtaraketsi and Alexander Mantashev.
