Stepaside, Dublin

Stepaside ( _ga. An Chéim) is a suburban village located in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County, Ireland.

Location

A suburb of Dublin, Stepaside lies on the R117 regional road to the south-east of the city, at the foot of Three Rock mountain. Neighbouring areas include Sandyford ,Kilternan, Ballyogan, Leopardstown, Carrickmines and Glencullen.

Stepaside is serviced by the 47, 44, 46B, and 118 Dublin Bus services. A New Bus The "47" was launched in September 2008, It Departs From Belarmine Usually on the Half Hour and every 15 minutes at more frequent times of the day. From Belarmine It goes On to Sandyford Hall, Leopardstown, The Luas, Stillorgan and then onto UCD and Donnybrook. The Luas Green Line is currently being extended to Cherrywood; the nearest stop(The Gallops or Ballyogan Wood) will be a kilometer from the centre of Stepaside. The town is located just off junction fourteen of the M50 motorway.

Development

Since 2002 the Stepaside area has witnessed an extensive home-building program and an accompanying large growth in population. Previously a separate rural village, it has been absorbed by the Dublin conurbation to the north and east. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council recently announced plans to build a community park for the Carrickmines, Ballyogan, and Stepaside areas at a cost of €40 million. A large civic centre will be built and the park will be named after Samuel Beckett.

Six new shops, a pub, and an off-licence are currently being built on the site of the old Mountain View bar and restaurant in the center of the village. The old village center still contains one local shop, as well as a Garda Síochána station. The area is situated 4 kilometers south of Dundrum Town Centre

Localities and housing developments

The majority of residential units in Stepaside are high density apartments and low rise housing estates, and divisions might be said to include:
* The village proper.
* "Stepaside Park Estate", a housing estate located beside Saint Patrick's Park, south of the village.
* "Belarmine", "Parkview" and "Littlewood", constructed in 2005, situated off the Enniskerry Road to the north of the village are high density developements.
* "Aiken's Village", a development on the northern side of Stepaside, near Lamb's Cross.
* "Saint Patrick's Park", in the village center, beside Stepaside Park.
* "Kilgobbin" estate, a low density 1960s development.
* "Wingfield", "Cruagh Manor" and "Cairnfort", estates off the Enniskerry Road, to the south of Stepaside park.

People

* Famous residents include Joe Elliott, the lead singer of Def Leppard; and comedian Hal Roach.
