- National Mediation Training Registry (USA)
-
The National Mediation Training Registry was established as a pro bono initiative in 2010 by Paul Merlyn, a San Francisco mediator who currently serves as the self-proclaimed Administrator of the Registry. The Registry is an online repository of USA-based mediation trainers and mediation training events. It endeavors to address five principal user groups (as well as, of course, the mediation trainers who serve them):
- Experienced attorneys, therapists, and social workers looking to extend their scope of practice into mediation.
- Established dispute resolution professionals in search of advanced training.
- Managers and human resource professionals with responsibility for managing and developing people.
- Private individuals curious to acquire new skills for use in their personal or professional lives.
- Career changers seeking to enter the dynamic field of mediation.
Prospective trainees can submit an email address to receive push notification when local trainers add new mediation training events. (All submitted email addresses remain strictly private and are never shared with any members of the Reigstry. One-click safe unsubscribe is also available.) A mediation trainer's presence in the Registry does not constitute an affirmation of either a trainer's reputation or the quality of his/her mediation training events. In this way, the Registry does not fulfill an accreditation function.
Technology
The Registry is powered entirely by open-source software technologies — Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Mediation trainers self-register as well as post and edit details of their upcoming mediation training events directly on the Registry site. Whereas expired events are automatically removed from the public face of the Registry, trainers can log into the Registry (via a designated username and password assigned when first registering) to re-post an expired training event that has since been scheduled anew for a future date. Trainers and trainees can also participate in discussions through an online forum powered by the free SEO Board software.
