Medal record Women’s swimming Competitor for the United States Olympic Games Silver 1956 Melbourne 4x100 m freestyle relay Nancy Joan Simons-Peterson (born May 20, 1938 in Oakland, California) is a former American swimmer. She represented the United States as an eighteen-year-old at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, where she won a silver medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay with Sylvia Ruuska, Shelley Mann, and Joan Alderson-Rosazza.[1] She also competed individually in the 100-meter freestyle but was eliminated in the semifinals. She later married and took the last name Peterson.
