Club Deportivo Nacional is a Mexican football team. The club was founded in Guadalajara, Jalisco México in 1916 . In 1919 the club joined the now defunct liga amateur de Jalisco. The club won its first title in 1922 playng in the second division. The club also won 7 Liga Amtures de jalisco in 1925–1926, 1926–1927, 1930–1931, 1931–1932, 1933–1934, 1936–1937 and 1938–1939 behind C.D. Guadalajara who won 13. in The club has played in most important leagues in Mexico , recently the club plays in the Tercera División de México.

History

Amateur era

The club's origins date back to 1915 in the barrio(neighborhood) of Mexicaltzingo in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco when Club Unico split into two clubs.

The club joined the liga de Jalisco second division in 1919 where they played till 1922 when they won the tournament and were allowed to join the leagues first division, all tho the league made it difficult for the club to join the league making them play an exhibition match to prove they were worthy of playing in the first division. Once allowed in the first division the club went on to win 7 titles in the 1925–1926, 1926–1927, 1930–1931, 1931–1932, 1933–1934, 1936–1937 and 1938–1939 behind C.D. Guadalajara who won 13.

1924–25 title Match

In the 1923–24 tournament the club finished 2nd in the league thanks to good players : Alfonso Ávila, Lorenzo Camarena, Rafael Fierro, Juan Valencia, Manuel Benavides, Simón García, Juan Vázquez, Teófilo Zúñiga, Luis Valencia, Miguel Alatorre y Daniel Gómez, así como de los suplentes Calixto García, Isabel Huerta, Francisco Espinosa, Francisco Fierro and Hilario López.

After the tournament had ended the club made its first appearance in the Mexico City were they played a friendly series with Real Club España which they lost. Later the club played went on to play another friendly cup series against local club Club Alianza, this time the club won and took the Copa Latino-Nacional.

In the 1924–25 tournament the club finished the tournament tied with C.D. Guadalajara and so a championship match was organized whhic took place on 5 April 1925. The Estadio Felipe Martínez Sandoval was full to capacity ,causing disturbance due to the number of supporters gather in and outside the stadium which the soldier who were present started shooting warning shoots to the sky to keep order. The first goal was score by Anastasio Prieto from C.D. Guadalajara . In the second half Zuavo player from Nacional scored the equalizer. Close to the end of the game a penalty was called in favor of C.D. Guadalajara which Nacional protrest and some players in their rage left the field ,the refary decides that the game must go on with or with out the players from El Nacional which it did. Back up Goalkeeper Francisco Fierros did not leave the field and so the penalty was executed by Anastasio Prieto who had score the first goal for C.D. Guadalajara, this time he wasn't as fortuned having hes penalty block. The player's decided to return to the game and a few minutes later the referee called full time ,The draw would have given 'El Nacional the title, which players from C.D. Guadalajara protested claiming that the goalkeeper who had block he penalty was not a legal player no substitution had being made. The referee decided to take this to the leagues federation who decided that the game should be played once again. So the game was replayed on 20 April that same year. The first half finished with no goal scored. In the second half a penalty was called for El Nacional. The penalty was missed after the ball hit the goal post and so the game remain 0–0. At the end of the game with a long past from the C.D. Guadalajara goalkeeper to Higinio "El Perico" Huerta who in one swiff move headed the ball and score the only goal giving C.D. Guadalajara the title and so the first leagues rivalry was born.

1925–26 first title

In the 1925–26 tournament after having loss the hearth breaking match against C.D. Guadalajara the club reinforced its squad by sinning new players:Aurelio "Mortero" Delgado, Lorenzo González, José María Chávez and Antonio CasillasThe club managed to win its first title after beating F.C. Atlas in May 1926 with a score of 3–2. For that match the Nacional supporters once again fill the stadium to capacity this time not having as many incidents as the year before. The club finished with 17 points 2 more the runner up C.D. Guadalajara, F.C. Atlas finished with 13. That tournoment the club did not lose any game.

1930s Championships

Copa Aviación

in 1928 with the inauguration of Campo de aviación a series was organized with Selección Jalisco who represented the league from Jalisco against Guerra y Marina from Mexico City. There were players from El Nacional in both clubs Hilario López playing for Guerra y Marina. The trophies was donated by then Mexico's president Lázaro Cárdenas. Selección Jalisco won took that trophy which later was giving to El Nacional in 1930-31 after the club won the first division league title as well as the Third division inferior league.

League titles

After star player Lorenzo Camarena left the club to join Mexico City Guerra y Marina followng in the foot steps of Hilario López, the club brought in new player's José "Carbonero" Sánchez, José Sánchez Mut, Teódoro alba, Lorenzo González, "El Salero", Manuel Vázquez que junto con Luis Valencia, Juan Vázquez, Aurelio Delgado, R. Sánchez, Delfino Ríos, "El Sihuín" y "El Talache" the last two coming from Atlético Latino. The club went on to win the 1930–1931 and 1931–1932 league titles.

In the 1933–34 for the 5th time the club managed to win the leagues title this time under the management of Luis Valencia, Juan Vázquez and Ramón Sánchez. Havineg playeres such as Francisco y Enrique Múñoz, Antonio Rodríguez, Juan Salcido, J. Jesús Ruelas, Hermilo Zamora, Manuel García, José Luna, José Guzmán, Jesús López "Moco III", Juan López "Moco II", Rosalío Morales, J. Trinidad González , Santos Sandoval with Luis Valencia as team Captain .

At the end of the tournament the club had its first International match against Chilean side Audax Italiano who was on a off season tour trough Mexico Playing with top clubs in Mexico City, Audax Italiano also played matches against Club Latino and Guadalajara. The match took place on April 1933 with a cup at stake donated by Alfonso Rosales y José María Martínez owners of Club Nacional. The match finished with a 2–2 draw which in a friendly gestter they decided to split the c up in two which Audax Italiano did not agree with at first.

the club said goodbye to the 1930s by wining their 6th and seventh league titles in 1937–1938 and 1939–1940 also having finished second in the 1935–1936 tournaments. And so winning 5 league titles and various Friendly cups in the 1930s.

1940s

The club started of the 1940s by fishing runners up in 1940–1941 after having won the previous year. With President Manuel P. Carrillo the club was invited to play in the Liga Amateur Del Distrio Federal Mexico City top division football league at the time. So the league decides to get the best players from the Local League and let them to Selección Jalisco who would represent all clubs from Jalisco in Mexico City till the 1942–1943 when the Country organized the first Professional league. With the professionalization o f football in Mexico The Jalisco league losses Important clubs and the reaming clubs CD Oro,Club Latino and Club Marte decide to go on with the remaining clubs. Where in 1943–1944 the club finished 2nd.

In 1945 Alfonso Rosales, José T. Meza and Mateo Zepeda take over the club with a group of reduce collaborateres with José Ramírez been the most important. With a dismantel club having all of its good players leaving to join Better clubs who paid more.

From 1946–1951 Daniel Jaime along with his sons take ownership of the club ,who tried hard to promoted the club and place it in the best leagues in Mexico. The club kept producing good players where Jesús "Chuco" Ponce and Tomás Balcázar standout who later went on to be part of the Campeonisimo with C.D. Guadalajara in the 1960s.

1950s

From 1951–1954 Antonio Casilla was the owner of the club who saw the club struggle during his ownership so in 1954 he sold the club to J. Guadalupe Vargas who went on to register the club in the Segunda División Profesional and so finally joining the professional leagues in Mexico. The club made it official in 26 February 1956 the club played its first tournament that same year.

The clubs first game was played on 18 July 1956 against Club Celaya who defeated them 2–1. The club did not win until the round 3 when the beat Club de Fútbol Laguna 4–3. The club played in the second division from 1956–1961 when the club obtain the championship and so was awarded the promotion to the first division.

1960s Primera División de México

The club played its first Primera División de México tournament in the 1961–1960^[2] season. The club finished that tournament with a record of 7 wins 9 draws 10 losses scoring 30 goals and allowing 44 finished tied for 8th with clubs Jaibos Tampico Madero and Atlante F.C. with 23 points. That same year Club Universidad Nacional was promoted and CD Zacatepec was relegated to the second division.

In the 1962–1963^[2] tournament the club finished 6th overall with a record of 9 wins 9 draws 8 losses scoring 37 goals and allowing 43 9 points from their cross town rival CD Oro who finished with 37 points. That same year CD Zacatepec was promoted after one year in the inferior division and Jaibos Tampico Madero was relegated to the second division.

In the 1963–1964^[2] tournament the club finished 16 last in the league with a record of 4 wins 4 draws 18 losses scoring 26 goals and allowing 71 for a total of 12 points. The club had the worst goal differential allowing 45 more than they score. Cruz Azul (Jasso) (2nd. Division Champion) and Veracruz (2nd. place in a promotion tournament to increase the number of teams to 16 in which Nacional was 1st. and thus not relegated, Ciudad Madero was 3rd. and Poza Rica was 4th. ).

In the 1964–1965^[2] tournament the club finished 14th last in the league with a record of 6 wins 10 draws 14 losses scoring 29 goals and allowing 50 for a total of 22 points. The club started the tournament by losing against Club America 2–1 then losing 3–0 to Club Leon in the third round they lost 2–1 to Atletico Morelia,I n the fourth they lost 2–0 to C.F. Monterrey,In the 5th round they loss again to Deportivo Toluca F.C. 2–0 ,In the round 6th the club was humiliated after losing 6–1 to CD Oro and if that wasn't enough in round 7 the club loss 5–1 to Club Universidad Nacional. In the round 8 the club finally earn their first point after dying 0–0 with Necaxa. Overall the club had a bad year and so was relegated to the second division that year which was the clubs last season in the Primera División de México to date.

Present day

The club has participated on and of in the Mexican Third and second Division. The club plays in the City Of Guadalajara the squad is mostly made up off young players Trying to bring the clubs back to its former glory. The club also has a female football club that plays in the city of Guadalajara.
