2001–02 NCAA football bowl games

The 2001-02 NCAA College Football Bowl Games post-season schedule followed the 2001 NCAA Division I FBS regular season in college football. The Miami Hurricanes won the National Championship over Nebraska, 37-14.

In the first New Orleans Bowl, the Colorado State Rams beat the North Texas Mean Green 45-20.

GMAC Bowl

December 19, 2001 at Ladd Peebles Stadium, Mobile, AL

This game featured two future NFL quarterbacks, David Garrard for East Carolina and Byron Leftwich for Marshall. The Pirates jumped out to a 38-8 lead at halftime but Marshall came back to tie the game at 51 at the end of the fourth quarter. The game ended in double overtime 64-61, marking it the highest scoring bowl game in history. Byron Leftwich tied a bowl game record with 576 passing yards.
