Motörhead portal

The English heavy metal group Motörhead have been consistently releasing studio and live albums throughout their career, from 1975 through to the present day. In addition to albums recorded under contract specifically for release, as detailed on the Motörhead discography article, the group have been subject to "unofficial" releases of studio out-takes, live recordings and radio sessions.

These "unofficial" releases have been compiled from recordings usually several years old and generally released without the given consent of the then current group and management. The release of the recordings are legitimate and have been licensed by former members of the group, their management, or where the copyright is held by the record company or radio station for whom the recordings were made.

Studio albums

On Parole

Main article: On Parole

Recorded under contract to United Artists Records in 1975-6 as their debut album, the record company refused to release it despite pressure from the group, having deemed it commercially unviable. After the group started to receive attention, the record company released it as On Parole at the end of 1979.

Dirty Love

A Receiver Records release in 1990 licensed from guitarist Eddie Clarke, this album is composed of studio rehearsals and demos for the 1980 album Ace of Spades. The tracks have subsequently been included as a bonus disk on the Sanctuary Records 2CD deluxe edition of Ace of Spades.

Live – Blitzkrieg On Birmingham '77

Recorded live in 1977, this 1989 release was the first in a series licensed by former guitarist Eddie Clarke from his own personal archives to Receiver Records. It is credited as being taken from Birmingham Town Hall, 3 June 1977 during the group's support slot on a Hawkwind UK tour just prior to the release of their debut album Motörhead.

The Birthday Party

Recorded during the group's 10th Anniversary show at the Hammersmith Odeon on 26 June 1985. The show had previously been issued as the The Birthday Party video, but in 1990 after the group had parted company with their manager Douglas Smith and his record company GWR Records, he chose to issue the soundtrack as an album.

Live Jailbait

This double album consists of two shows, from the beginning of the 1982 North America tour of Iron Fist, and from a 1980 UK television In-Concert performance. The recordings were licensed by former guitarist Eddie Clarke to Receiver Records for release in 1992. The Iron Fist recordings are from the soundtrack of the video Live in Toronto, and these recordings were included as a bonus disk on the Sanctuary Records 2CD deluxe edition of Iron Fist. The final 2 tracks are taken from the 1977 "Leaving Here" Stiff Records 7" single.

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers

The Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers EP is a collection of studio out-takes from 1977 as the band were recording their debut album Motörhead for Chiswick Records. Chiswick Records label boss Ted Carrol released the EP in 1980 on his Big Beat Records label. The tracks have been included as bonus tracks on the CD re-issue of the debut album.
