Description
The building has 43 floors and its structural height is 140 metres (459 ft).[1] However, together with the huge M on the roof, the building's total height is 152.3 metres (499.7 ft). The huge M measures 8 by 8 by 1 meters and is the logo of Montevideo.[2] It is also designed to be a giant wind vane.[2] The Montevideo Tower was opened 19 December 2005.[2] The building was designed by the Mecanoo architecture firm.[2] It has 192 apartments, 6,050 m2 (65,122 sq ft) of office space, and 1,933 m2 (20,807 sq ft) of retail space. The building takes its name from Uruguay's capital, Montevideo.
Awards
The building received a commendation award by the International Highrise Award 2006,[3] and it has been awarded the Dedallo Minosse Prize.[2] In addition it finished in third place in the 2005 Emporis Skyscraper Award selection.[4]
