Monte Velino Elevation 2,487 m (8,159 ft) Location Location Abruzzo, Italy Range Central Appennines Coordinates 42°09′N 13°22′E / 42.15°N 13.367°E Monte Velino is a mountain (2,487 m) in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy, part of the Abruzzo Apennines. Located nearby the boundary with Lazio, between the Fucino plain and the Aterno, Salto and Velino rivers' valleys, it is the highest peak in the sub-chain known as Velino-Sirente, and the third in the whole Apennines.
The massif is included in the Natural Regional Park of Sirente-Velino. It is chacterized by a rough and desertic appearance, but in fact characterized by a flourishing specialized vegetation. Fauna includes Italian wolf and wild boar.
