The Montana Taekwondo Association (MTA) (http://www.montanataekwondo.org/) is the “official” state association for the sport of Taekwondo in Montana. The MTA has worked to promote and support Taekwondo as a sport and martial art within Montana for more than two decades.
The MTA promotes and supports Taekwondo training, competition, and education/certification throughout Montana at the “grass-roots” level. Programs (both state and national) include:
- Referee Training and Certification
- Coach and Athlete Clinics
- Instructor Education and Training
- Local Tournament Support
- Montana State Championships
- Support for other Montana Taekwondo Groups and Programs
National Recognition
The MTA is officially recognized by the national governing body (NGB) for Taekwondo, USA Taekwondo; as well as the Amateur Athletic Union’s Taekwondo program.
Legal Status
The MTA is a Montana Non-profit Corporation.
History
Leadership:
- The MTA was founded by Master Kim Sol of Missoula, MT, who served as President until 2006.
- Master John Paul Noyes served as President from 2007 to 2009.
- Master Dan Williams is the current President of the MTA.
Notable Alumni:
- Master Jaydes Warwick – 1988 Olympic Bronze Medalist, United States National Taekwondo Team Co-Captain from 1981 to 1989, and former United States Taekwondo Union (now known as USA Taekwondo) Executive Director.
- Master Scott Miranti – Two-time Pan American Champion and World University Games Champion.
- Master Steve Capener, PhD – First American to win a Gold Medal at the Pan American Games.
