Mollerup Skov (Mollerup forest) is a 97 hectare, relatively new forest that lies in the north of Århus in Risskov/Skejby between Skejbyvej, Langengevej and Skejby Nordlandsvej. The forest consists predominantly of beech, oak, ash and cherry trees, interrupted with open areas which give a view over Egådalen and Egå Engsø. With a number of small ponds, this provides a good environment for a rich variety of wildlife including hares, deer, pheasants and foxes.
The forest was purchased by Århus Kommune in the period 1993-7 as part of the plan Århus omkranset af skov (Århus, surrounded by forest). The plan was begun by the town hall in 1988 with the aim of doubling the town's forested area by the year 2000. The forest is part of the town's nature management program[1]
The forest has two walking and running routes, marked red and yellow, which are approximately 2 km and 3 km respectively.
