About mold

Mold is a universal problem that affects the majority of the world's population in one way or another. The reason why mold is such a big problem is that it can grow wherever there is moisture. Moreover, it can lead to costly structural damage to buildings and severe health problems in humans.

If ignored, a mold problem can spread quickly and cause devastating and irreparable damage to a home, office or other structure. More importantly, long-term exposure to mold can lead to health conditions such as respiratory illness, allergic reactions, mental confusion, nausea, and chronic fatigue.

As more and more people realize that air quality has a direct effect on health, mold has been getting a lot of media coverage with TV shows like Holmes on Homes exposing the ugly truth behind mold. The Health Canada website also contains an extensive resource for anything relating to mold and air quality, including the latest news, developments, facts and guidelines.

Services

Mold Busters comprehensive mold-related services include air quality testing, asbestos testing, thermal imaging inspections, visual inspections, mold remediation and disinfection services.

Below are the services presented by Mold Busters:

Mold inspection

A visual mold inspection allows inspectors to visit a property and assess a problem in person. It allows them to evaluate the extent of the damage and to identify possible sources of excess moisture.

Generally, a visual inspection is necessary before any kind of quote or recommendation can be made, During the visual inspection, the inspector may also take an air quality test or an infrared camera reading if requested to do so by the client.

Air quality testing

Air quality testing is the most accurate and effective way of determining if the air you are breathing is safe and free of biological or chemical pollutants. If you suspect that your home or office may be contaminated by mold, find a professional mold remediation company and schedule an air quality test immediately. If ignored, mold problems only get worse with time because mold spores are tiny and spread quickly.

Typically, a mold technician will come to your home and take an air sample from the room(s) in question. The sample will be sent to an accredited lab where it will be analyzed and the results forwared to you.

The results from the air quality test will reveal whether or not you have mold in your space and if so, in what concentrations. It will also identify the exact type(s) of mold spores present.

Infrared inspection

During the visual inspection, inspectors may be asked to perform an infrared camera inspection, also referred to as a thermal imaging inspection. In this case, they must use an infrared camera to examine both hte internal and external structure of a building. They may also check behind walls and hard-to-reach spaces such as attics and crawlspaces.

Infrared images allow inspectors to detect any faulty construction, problems with ventilation, leaks, water intrusion and so on. Thermal imaging cameras can also be used to detect condensation, moisture and ventilation problems within buildings.

Differences in temperature that are to drastic are good indicators of problematic insulation, moisture penetration and air leakage.

As such, thermal imaging inspections are a cost-effective and non-intrusive way of discovering mold and water damage.

Mold remediation

Once the presence of mold is confirmed by either a surface test or an air quality test, a mold remediation should follow. A mold remediation includes the elimination of all mold from a property and the proper disposal of any mold-contaminated materials.
