Hon. (Amb) Mohamed Maalim Mohamud (Somali: Maxamed Macalin Maxamud, Arabic: محمد معلم محمود), born July 4, 1953 in Mandera, is a Civil Engineer, former Diplomat, and Kenyan politician within the 10th Kenyan Parliament. He is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Mandera West Constituency [1]as well as the Assistant Minister (Electricity and Renewable Energy) in the Ministry of Energy [2]. He belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement Party.

Hon. Mohamud is a Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya,[3] a Registered Engineer with the Engineer’s Registration Board of Kenya, and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He has been awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) by the President of Kenya.

Previous to being elected to the National Assembly, Hon. Mohamud worked as an engineer [1] in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (then called Ministry of Water Development) between 1979 and 1989 within various capacities, rising to the level of Deputy Director of Water Development. From 1989 to 1996, he was the Chief Engineer (Development) within the National Water Conservation and Pipe Line Cooperation.

Hon. Mohamud served as Ambassador of Kenya to Egypt with accreditation to Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco & Eritrea from 1996 until 2003.[4] Besides bilateral duties, Amb. Mohamud played an active role in the Sudan and Somalia peace processes, both of which were supported by the Government of Kenya.

From 2003 up until his election, Hon. Mohamud served as Permanent Secretary within the Ministries of Regional Development, Home Affairs and Public Works. He is married with five children.
