She starred as Ryo Ishibashi's dead wife and the sister of Mami Kumagai in the movie Audition (1999). At the age of 17 she starred in her first drama-series, Tantei Monogatari, also starring her future husband Yusaku Matsuda, which sparked a real-life scandal between the married man (Matsuda) and the young co-star in 1980. The couple married in 1983 when their son Ryuhei was born. They had two more children: a second son, Shota ( born 1985) and a daughter (born 1988). After Yusaku's death in 1989 she moved with her children. In 2009 she was the executive producer for the documentary "Soul Red: Yusaku Matsuda" about her husband's life and death. She is also the grandmother of Ryuhei's daughter who was born July 27, 2009.
