Mr. Europa

Mr. Europa

The Mister Europa European Player of the Year Award is an annual basketball award created in 1976 and given today by the panel of journalists of the Italian weekly magazine Superbasket. Its purpose is to praise the best European basketball player, regardless of where he plays in the world, including NBA players, for a given season. The award is judged on the basis of both sports club and national team performances and accomplishments.

It is one of the three most prestigious awards that any European basketball player can receive along with FIBA's official award, the FIBA European Player of the Year Award, and the Euroscar Award. Croatian small forward Toni Kukoč currently holds the record for most wins with four, three of them being consecutive, a record as well.

Honor roll

When a player has been with more than one club in the calendar year of his award, all are listed.

Three players are listed as citizens of more than one country:

  • Nikos Galis was a citizen of both the United States and Greece by birth—the US because of his birth in New Jersey, and Greece because both of his parents were Greek immigrants to the US.
  • Toni Kukoč is listed for 1991 as a citizen of both SFR Yugoslavia and Croatia because Croatia declared its independence in that year.
  • Peja Stojaković is listed as a citizen of both FR Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro in 2002, the year of establishment of the latter entity. He also holds a Greek passport.
