The Minneapolis–St. Paul International Film Festival is a springtime film festival in the U.S. state of Minnesota that has been held since the early 1980s. Known as the largest film event in the Upper Midwest, the festival invites numerous films from all corners of the globe, and attracts a large number of independent filmmakers to the Twin Cities over the course of its run. Operating under various names since the 1980s.
The 2012 Minneapolis–St. Paul International Film Festival is scheduled for April 12 - May 3, and will include a slate of 250+ films from over 50 countries.
The festival is organized by The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul, a non-profit film-arts organization that operates out of the St. Anthony Main Theatre Complex on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Several other area theaters also participate in the film festival.
Because of the cultural heritage of Minnesota, a significant number of Scandinavian films are usually included. Locally-produced material is also highlighted through a series called Minnesota Made.
