Woodbine Oaks (2009)Awards Sovereign Award for Champion 3-Year-Old Filly (2009) Horse (Equus ferus caballus) Milwaukee Appeal (foaled 2006 in Ontario) is a Canadian Thoroughbred filly racehorse bred and raced by businessman Eugene George under his nom de course, C.E.C. Farms. Sired by Milwaukee Brew, one of only three horses to ever win back-to-back runnings of the Santa Anita Handicap, her grandsire, Wild Again, won the 1984 Breeders' Cup Classic. Her dam, Appealing Forum, is a daughter of Open Forum who won the Risen Star Stakes and is a son of two-time Leading sire in North America and Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Deputy Minister.
Based at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Milwaukee Appeal is trained by Scott Fairlie. The filly's 2009 season has been highlighted by a win in the Woodbine Oaks in which she was ridden by Canadian-born jockey Stewart Elliott who won the 2004 Kentucky Derby aboard Smarty Jones. With jockey Elliott aboard her again, Milwaukee Appeal finished third in the 150th running of Canada's premier race, the Queen's Plate.
On July 12 of 2009, the filly made an impressive score at Fort Erie for the annual Prince of Wales Stakes. In which, she placed a decent second place. Drawing chute 2 apparently. Yet, the filly came and beat Queen's Plate winner Eye of the Leopard, in that race of over $500,000, and finished behind winner, Gallant.
She did not compete in the Breeders Stakes, though.
Just recently she ran in the great Alabama G1 and finished a strong second behind a great winner, Careless Jewel.
She will be running in the Selene at Woodbine, if she wins she will pass the $1 million dollar mark in earnings.
Scott Fairlie has done a spectacular job training her throughout her career through every start. But Scott doesn't take all credit, he also credits having a great staff and great owners to make this all happen, but most importantly he credits Millwaukee Appeal
