MCBC Home of MCCS

Millers Creek Christian School is an unaccredited private school operated through the Millers Creek Baptist Church of Millers Creek, North Carolina. The school was established in 1997 and includes instruction through high school grade 12.

Accreditation

Millers Creek Christian School is currently registered with the North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education and is also an accredited member of the Association of Christian Schools International. The school is currently pursuing accreditation by ACSI.^{[citation needed]}

History

Millers Creek Christian School was established in 1997 as an educational ministry of Millers Creek Baptist Church. The pastor, Reverend Jim Gore and the church families believed that God was leading the church to develop a day school through which it could increase the teaching of the Bible and enhance character development in the lives of young people within the church and the community. Accepting God’s Word that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” the church believed that students should be provided with the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the Bible and thereby to develop a personal relationship with Christ.

In September 1997, Millers Creek Christian School began with two, three, and four year old classes. Plans were made to continue ministry with the addition of an afterschool program, which began in fall 1998. As the needs of the church and community grew, the school expanded in fall 1999 with the addition of a kindergarten class. Further expansion followed in fall 2000, when elementary classes began.

Millers Creek Baptist Church felt the need to enlarge the school areas on campus. A capital campaign began in 2003, and in 2004 the church approved construction of a new addition. Additionally, in fall 2004 Millers Creek Christian School began the middle school program. Construction of the new east wing addition was completed in August 2006.

Continued growth of the church and school led Millers Creek Baptist Church to purchase an additional fourteen acres of land adjoining our facilities for future expansion in 2007. Millers Creek Christian School began its high school program in August 2007.

In May 2011, Millers Creek Christian School graduated its first class of three seniors.

Curriculum

Millers Creek Christian School utilizes the A-BEKA Christian School curriculum, Bob Jones University Press, and ACSI materials for its academic program. Approved supplemental materials are used to reinforce and enrich classroom instruction. These curriculums are based on Christian principles and utilize drill and practice in its presentation of concepts.

The curriculum is advanced in its presentation of concepts and may require an entering student to do some remedial work to catch up with the rest of the class. Our current curriculum offerings include Bible, Reading, a phonetic-based approach, Math, English, Science/Health, Social Studies, Physical Education, and writing — making use of manuscript for K2 through 2nd grade, and cursive for grades 3 through 12. Composition skills are developed from grades 1 to 12.

Philosophy

The educational program is grounded in Christian teachings and is presented from a Christian perspective. The development of the “whole child” is emphasized as spiritual, mental, physical, and social growth is nurtured. The teaching and application of concepts learned is based on the belief that an education based on Christian beliefs and presented in a Christian environment will enhance the student’s life and help him to develop a personal relationship with God through his acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and to help him to learn to love others as himself, to have a proper love for himself, and to have a love for his country and his environment.

Spiritual development

Students will experience excitement and joy in the pursuit of knowing God. They will be provided an environment where they can:

• Develop and experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, and in the interaction with the Holy Spirit through the Bible
• Love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength
• Believe that Jesus is God’s Son who was crucified, resurrected, and risen again, paying the price for the sin of all people
• Realize the need to repent of personal sins and accept God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Moral values
