History

Mick began his career at age 7, when he was given his first guitar by his parents who were both accomplished musicians in their own right. Largely self-taught by accompanying his family's diverse record collection, Mick developed a love for the blues and began crafting his unique style. He took some but few lessons from some local Buffalo musicians including Dave Constantino and Doug Yeomans who's relationship with Mick has grown into friendship over the years.[1] In 2003, Mick started placing amongst the top musicians largely in Buffalo but placing in competitions all over the United States.[3] Every year since then, Mick has won multiple awards and continues to do so. In 2010, he was accepted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Achievements as himself and also The Mick Hayes Band. Mick currently resides in Buffalo playing all over Western New York along with some touring outside of Buffalo throughout the year. Mick has recorded multiple albums and is currently in the process of recording a new album that will be titled Recovery, set to release in November 2011.[1][2]

Career

Mick has played all over the United States and has also toured in Canada. His most popular spots included Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY, New York, NY, Nashville, TN, and the state of Georgia.[1] He has been the opening act for some huge names including: Dave Mason, Robin Trower, Peter Frampton, The Doobie Brothers, Cheap Trick, Smokin Joe Kubek, Michael Burkes, Nigel Mack, Los Lonely Boys, Hill Country Review, Survivor and many more.[4] Mick not only plays electric guitar, but he also plays acoustic and slide guitar. Mick is endorsed by 'The Rock Slide' (WA), Amalfitano pickups (TX), and Songhurst Guitars (WA). Mick is currently endorsing Fuchs Audio Technology and plays an 'Overdrive Supreme" amplifier.

Influences

Mick truly has his own sound but growing up in a house with music on all the time, he was influenced by many artists. These artists include Jimmie Vaughan, Robin Trower, Otis Redding, Prince, Elmore James, Jimi Hendrix, and Billy Gibbons.[1]

Guitars

Mick Hayes is a musician that has cycled through a lot of different guitars but some of his solid playing guitars now include a Fender Telecaster, a truly unique "Songhurst Guitar"- named "The Mick Hayes Model", and a Paul Reed Smith SE-One.[1] His newest guitars are a Gibson Les Paul Gold Top from 1976 and a 1971 Fender Telecaster.

In 2009, development began on the ‘Mick Hayes Model’ Songhurst Guitars (Spokane, WA).[5] The national guitar manufacturer, Danny Songhurst, endorsed Mick after he first heard Mick's music. Mick's music inspired Danny to create a guitar in Mick's honor. Mick has played the 'self titled' guitar all over the country, captivating listeners ears with his powerful, driving tone and compelling guitar playing. Mick Hayes also caught the eye of Amalfitano Pickups (Keller, TX) who were "hypnotized" by his technique.[1]
