Michel van Rijt (born June 25, 1970 in Helmond, Netherlands) is a martial artist and the national coach of the Greek Jiu-Jitsu team since 2005.
Van Rijt started with judo when he was 10 years old. At 15 he was member of the national judo team under 18 and later under 21. When he was 16 he started also with Pencak Silat, later with Wado Ryu Karate and Shotokan Karate. When he was 19 he took up also Jiu-Jitsu. At the age of 23 he started to compete in jiu-jitsu and became a member of the national team from 1994 until 2001 when he stopped his career. At the age of 25 van Rijt stopped as an active judo fighter but kept training with the National Judo Team and National Jiu-jitsu team. Also he trained Karate with the National Coach in that time Huub Meijer. In the years between he trained many years with his friend Bas Rutten in Eindhoven where Bas was an instructor of Pancrase. Also Boxing, Kick-Boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Shooto, Greek Roman and Freestyle wrestling (De Halter Utrecht) came along. Van Rijt trained all these sports for many years and this made him an all-round fighter.

Michel van Rijt as coach / trainer
In 1999 Michel van Rijt starts his own school/club named budosport Van Rijt and changed that name later in Sportcentrum Van Rijt. In his school he trained many talents.
He had many fighters who became National Champion Jiu-Jitsu and even higher. His sister Yvonne van Rijt became as a Junior 3 times Dutch Champion with the seniors and took several 2nd and 3rd places at European and World Championships Jiu-Jitsu for Juniors.
Patricia Hekkens became 5 times National Champion, European Champion, World Champion and Winner of Gold medal at World Games.
Radjan Rambaratsingh became European Champion Amateur Shooto in 2007 in the category - 91 KG.
In 2005 the Greek Jiu-Jitsu Federation asked him to become the National Coach for Greece.
In the years following van Rijt made a few World Champions with the Aspirants and Juniors several 2nd and 3rd places in European and World Championships Aspirants and Juniors and also some 5th places in World Championships for Seniors. Also a 3rd place from Gianis Papadopoulos in the - 69 KG category in the European Championships in Montenegro 2009.
One of his students in Greece was Hermes Dimitropoulos who trained in his School in Athens (Budo Ryu Athina). Before van Rijt came to Greece Hermes was already a good judo fighter with 2 National titles in Judo in the Juniors -21. Van Rijt started to train with Hermes mostly Jiu-Jitsu Fighting and making finetuning of karate and Judo. Also on the floor they spent many hours for Grappling and BJJ. Hermes now is one of the best fighters in Greece. Because of injuries he did nog take a medal at a European or World Championships. He became World Champion Pancration and took some 5th places in World and European Championships Jiu-Jitsu.
Seminars
Van Rijt was asked by the JJIF (Jiu-Jitsu International Federation) to give seminars in different countries also he was personally invited as teacher in:
Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Cyprus, Germany (Bundes Seminar, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 , Mauritius, Paris (France), Russia, Belgium, USA (San Fransisco), Norway, Italy, Israel. Macedonia, Kazachstan.
