Michael Smith (born 17 October 1991 in Wallsend)[1] is an English professional footballer who plays for Charlton Athletic. Smith plays as a striker.

Career

Smith made his debut in the Football League on 5 April 2010, replacing Chris Moore in the 77th minute of Darlington's 1–0 home defeat by Hereford United in League Two.[2] He scored his first Football League goal on 1 May 2010, in the 79th minute of Darlington's 2–0 away win at Macclesfield Town.[3]

He joined Conference North club Workington on loan for a month on 29 October 2010,[4] and made six appearances before returning to Darlington.[5] In his first four Conference National matches back with Darlington he scored six goals.[6] In 30 April 2011 he signed a new two year contract along with Phil Gray and John McReady. In July 2011 Smith went on 2 week trial with Stoke City. Stoke didn't resume their interest in Smith and was sent back to Darlington. Watford then took Smith on trial. However he was also later sent back to Darlington.[7] He made his Charlton debut against FC Halifax Town in the FA Cup, coming on in the 87th minute. Shortley after coming on he set up the fourth goal of the match from a cross.
