Mera Pind (which means My village) is a Punjabi movie, released date in India on 20 September 2008, directed by Manmohan Singh (director) and produced by Manmohan Singh (director). The movie stars Harbhajan Mann, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kimi Verma, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Rana Ranbir, Gugu Gill, Sarabjit Mangat, Deep Dhillon, Navneet Nishan, Sheeba Bhakri.[1]

Plot

Mera Pind is the story of a well-to-do non-resident Indian Navroz Singh Lamba who has chosen to settle in his native village and spread the message of empowerment and entrepreneurship amongst the village youth. Led by Himmat[Harbhajan Maan], the youth set off a revolution in development of the village. It inspires Punjabis who are increasingly opting to settle abroad, to undertake business in their home villages and cities. Mera Pind is also a story of a young man seeking his love, the only barrier being the girl's father. It is the story of simple yet zealous men who drive greedy real estate agents away. It is the story of a Punjab that awakens to modernity and progress. This tale is set in Punjab and based on the story of Jamshaid. [2]

Reception

Mera Pind has turned out to be a blockbuster. The film has grossed a huge 5.50 crore worldwide in two weeks. In Punjab it has grossed 1.75 crore from 44 prints (22 digital) in two weeks. Overseas it has grossed 3.75 crore from 56 prints in two weeks. The two week overseas billings are 1.35 crore in United Kingdom, 1.85 crore in North America and 55 lakhs from Australia, New Zealand and Germany.The film opened to packed houses in Punjab and grossed INR 57, 95, 533 in the opening weekend alone. In India, the film released in 44 screens (22 prints and 22 digital). Overseas, the film opened at an astounding ₤72,000 in the UK, $177,000 in US and Canada, AUD $42, 419 in Australia and NZ $4,400 in New Zealand. The film released overseas with 56 prints across UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.[3]
