Edwin Mellen Press

The Edwin Mellen Press, based in Lewiston, New York[1] is a niche publisher of scholarly material and advanced research in the humanities and social sciences.[2] They publish a variety of tomes including monographs, bibliographies, concordances, dictionaries, conference proceedings, dissertations, and reference sets.[3] Other publications include academic journals, research from scholarly institutes and a large number of continuing series.[3] Edwin Mellen Press also publishes under two other imprints, Mellen Biblical Press and Mellen Poetry Press.

While their texts are held by research libraries world-wide,[2] the company typically limits the initial printing of each title to 300 copies but titles are guaranteed to stay perpetually in print.[4] Mellen currently has almost 7,000 books in print.

The press was founded by Dr. Herbert Richardson and is named after his maternal grandfather. Since 1973, it has published the work of more than eight thousand scholars. Edwin Mellen Press also has an office at Lampeter, Wales.

Example work: In 2004, Edwin Mellen published a revised doctoral dissertation, Response of Kentucky to the Mexican War, 1846-1848, written earlier by the Kentucky historian Damon R. Eubank at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi.[5]
