The population was 993 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 17.9 square miles (46.3 km²), of which, 17.2 square miles (44.4 km²) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) of it (3.86%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 993 people, 361 households, and 267 families residing in the township. The population density was 57.9 people per square mile (22.3/km²). There were 406 housing units at an average density of 23.7/sq mi (9.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.39% White, 0.10% African American, 0.70% Native American, and 0.81% from two or more races.
There were 361 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% were non-families. 19.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.16.
In the township the population was spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $40,655, and the median income for a family was $45,083. Males had a median income of $34,792 versus $22,188 for females. The per capita income for the township was $17,546. About 8.7% of families and 12.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.8% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.
