Exeter Township is a township in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 748 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²), of which, 3.1 square miles (8.1 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (7.94%) is water.

History

The name Exeter derives from the town of Exeter in Devon, England. Numerous other places have also been given the name Exeter.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 748 people, 315 households, and 206 families residing in the township. The population density was 239.0 people per square mile (92.3/km²). There were 403 housing units at an average density of 128.7/sq mi (49.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.33% White, 0.53% Asian, and 0.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population.

There were 315 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 122.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $37,841, and the median income for a family was $47,574. Males had a median income of $31,719 versus $27,250 for females. The per capita income for the township was $17,792. About 1.9% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.9% of those under age 18 and 2.0% of those age 65 or over.
