McGaw Peak

McGaw Peak (75°52′S 140°59′W / 75.867°S 140.983°W / -75.867; -140.983) is a prominent peak (over 800 m) on the ridge between Land Glacier and Paschal Glacier in Marie Byrd Land. It stands midway between Mount McCoy and Pearson Peak. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs, 1959-65. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Maj. Hugh R.L. McGaw, USA, Logistics Research Officer on the staff of the Commander, U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, during Operation Deep Freeze 1971 and 1972.
