- mbed microcontroller
-
The mbed microcontroller is a single-board microcontroller and associated tools for programming the device. The current hardware of the mbed microcontroller is based around an NXP - built ARM based Cortex-M3 core, running at 96MHz, with 512KB FLASH, 64KB RAM, as well as several interfaces including Ethernet, USB Device, CAN, SPI, I2C and other I/O.
The mbed microcontroller and tools are designed and maintained by ARM, in Cambridge, UK.
Toolchain
Uniquely, the toolchain provided with the mbed is purely online based. Code is written and compiled in a web based AJAX style IDE. Integrated with the online tools is an online community supporting discussion, code sharing and documentation.
The mbed is provided with a set of high-level object oriented libraries which support interaction with the majority of the board's I/O interfaces.
Awards
The mbed microcontroller received 1st prize in the annual EDN Innovation Awards' Software/Embedded Tools category [1].
