Matthew Ritter (born August 6, 1984) is an American three time world champion Top Spinner and musician from Tallahassee, FL. Matt Ritter Day (August 25) is named after him in Miamisburg, Ohio to the be day to celebrate tops in this top spinning capital of the world.[1]

Early life

Matthew Ritter was born on August, 6th 1984 in Tallahassee, Florida. Not much is known about his young childhood, only that he grew up in the Tallahassee area and began messing with yo-yo's at age 11. While in high school, he was an avid golfer and bowler. Matt graduated from Florida State University in 2007.

Career

Top Spinning

Matt was introduced to juggling and top spinning while working in a Tallahassee toy shop. In his spare time, he began learning to spin the top and eventually started to invent his own moves. In 2004, Matt participated in his first top spinning competition and won the title of World 2004 Spin Top Champion.[2] He won the title again in 2005[3] and again in 2006.[4] Matt took a hiatus from top spinning competition in 2007 to begin judging the competitions and giving others the chance to win the world title. In 2008 he taught a top spinning workshop for the World Yo-Yo Contest in Orlando, Florida.[5]

Music

Aside from his top spinning career, Matt Ritter is the lead guitarist and back up singer of the band Sencerhouse. They currently play at Big Daddy's in Tallahassee, Florida at least once a month. There are talks of a possible album due out later this year.
