Biography
Early life and performing
After graduating from Redwood High School, Matt went on to study classical theatre for a year at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.[1] Matt then moved to New York City. There, he was cast as the leads in productions of The Butcherhouse Chronicles and Lunch. Matt was soon added into the original company of Spring Awakening .
Career
Doyle sang the role of Peter on the recording of the musical Bare: a pop opera, in 2007.[2] He also played Peter in a reading held in 2009. Following Spring Awakening, Matt participated in a workshop of a musical version of Picnic at Hanging Rock, as well as several other readings and concerts showcasing the work of new composers.
In fall 2008, Matt made his first appearance as Jonathan Whitney, Eric van der Woodsen's boyfriend on the CW hit Gossip Girl.[3] Additionally, Matt has a small singing role in the film Once More With Feeling, which made its premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.[4]
Matt went on to play Hugo Peabody in the first Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie in 2009.[5] The show closed in January 2010.
On August 17, 2009 Doyle made his solo debut at Joe's Pub in New York City, with a reprisal on August 27.[6]
Doyle recently was cast in the 2011 movie Private Romeo (previously known as "McKinley" and "The Shakespeare Project"),[7] which is expected to hit the film festival circuit in the spring of 2011.[8]
Matt recently appeared on Brian Lowdermilk and Kait Kerrigan's album titled Our First Mistake. He sings on the tracks "Last Week's Alcohol" and "Two Strangers."[9]
He is currently appearing on Broadway as Billy Narracott (u/s Albert) in War Horse at Lincoln Center Theater. The role of Albert will be played by Doyle's Private Romeo co-star, Seth Numrich.[10] The show began previews on March 15, 2011, and officially opened on April 14, 2011.[dated info]
Doyle's debut EP, entitled Daylight, was released on 24 May 2011.[11]
