The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is an Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company that develops sustainable low-carbon energy projects. It is wholly owned subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company.

Operations

The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company was established to develop and manage Masdar City. In April 2008, the company established its first subsidiary in Germany, Masdar PV, which manufactures photovoltaic films. Masdar PV develops its first plant in Ichtershausen, Germany, and the second in Abu Dhabi.[1][2] It operates also in private equity through the Masdar Clean Technology Fund, established in November 2006.[1] In March 2008, Masdar and Sener Grupo de Ingeniería of Spain established a joint venture Torresol Energy to build and operate concentrating solar power stations globally.[3] In September 2008, the company invested in a Finnish wind turbine manufacturing company WinWinD.[1][4]

In addition to the Masdar City, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company operates the Masdar solar power plant and it is also a developer of the Shams 1 solar power station, a planned concentrating solar power station in Madinat Zayed, Abu Dhabi, which will be the largest parabolic trough power station in the world.[5][6] Together with the Government of Seychelles, it develops a wind farm near Mahé Island.[7][8] In cooperation with E.ON, Masdar develops the London Array wind farm.[9][10]
