Born in Liverpool and having trained at Southport College, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the No Sweat Journalism College both in London, Martyn has hosted a variety of lifestyle TV shows on several major networks including the BBC, RT Russia Today and Euronews. He has lived and worked on projects in the UK, Germany, Israel, Egypt, Australia, America and Russia.
As one of the original faces of the global TV channel RT International, he co-presented in the network's first ever hour on the 10th of December 2005. He writes and hosts the channel's main travel, entertainment and cookery programming.
Martyn is also a trained professional actor and singer having appeared on television and in major musicals in the UK and Europe such as Starlight Express, Hello Dolly, Rock Hard, Whistle Down The Wind and Copacabana.
Martyn has hosted, created and produced a range of other TV shows on several major networks around the globe. Other international television projects have included the award winning programmes "My Abyss" a diving documentary filming in dozens of exotic marine locations, the Egyptian adventure series "Pyramid Quest", the live UK chat show "Lounge Living", and travel shows "The Golden Ring - A Tour in Time" and two series of "Venice of the North: A Season in St Petersburg". He also hosted live TV coverage at the 2009 Moscow Eurovision Song Contest and "Russian Around" a special off spin series filming in London, Paris, Rome and Florence.
He currently hosts and writes the popular culture programme "Moscow Out" - a weekly entertainment programme and "A Prime Recipe" a weekly cookery show on RT and Euronews (to a potential 430 millions homes worldwide). A large selection of Martyn's programmes are also broadcast on RTD Russia Today's new documentary channel, YouTube, RTCY in Cyprus, Airiang in South Korea, the high speed Sapsan train network and onboard many Aeroflot longhaul flight routes.
Martyn is most know for his travel and adventure programme “Wayfarer” - broadcast and dubbed in 100 countries. The show took him from minus 40 to plus 40 to 4 continents - through the 11 times zones of Russia and the CIS countries. Programme highlights included the Polar Circle, Outer Mongolia, the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal and climbing the tallest mountain in Europe Elbruss.
He is also a food critic, a guest travel speaker, television panel guest and is often used by a range of networks, print and world wide media as a travel and culture expert and has visited over 550 cities and towns around the world. Known for his jetsetting lifestyle, he currently lives between London, Moscow and Cyprus.
In 2010 Celebrity magazine "OK" highlighted Martyn's career in a travel article called "the one to watch". In late 2011, UK lifestyle magazine "Beige" featured him in a story titled "The Rising Tsar".
