Career
Born in Ashington, Northumberland,[1] Cullen joined the Hull City youth system on a two-year scholarship in June 2008.[3] He made his first team debut as a 67th minute substitute in a 4–1 defeat against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round.[4] He was given a place in the team after having scored 27 goals for the youth team during the 2009–10 season.[5]
Cullen, along with Tom Cairney, signed a new three and a half year deal with the club until 2012.[6]
He made his Premier League debut on 24 April 2010 when he came on as a substitute for George Boateng in the 75th minute of the home match against Sunderland, which Hull lost 1–0.[7] He made his first start for Hull against Wigan in the Premier League on 3 May 2010, and went on to score his first goal for the club in a 2–2 draw.[8] He then went on to start in Hull's last game of the season against Liverpool in a 0–0 draw.
Cullen joined League Two club Bradford City on a one-month loan on 6 January 2011.[9] He played four games during his loan spell before returning to Hull after one month.[10]
On 20 July 2011, Cullen was loaned out to Bury for a 6 month loan, taking the number 9 shirt.[11]
