Manitoba Geocaching Association Nicknames MBGA Number of members 500 - 1200 The Manitoba Geocaching Association Inc. (MBGA) strives to advance the sport of geocaching in the Province of Manitoba by encouraging fellowship amongst Manitoba geocachers through regular social activities; fostering geocaching etiquette and responsible stewardship of public lands; raising public awareness and understanding of geocaching through effective use of media relations; ensuring access to public lands for geocaching activities by working as a liaison with public land-use agencies; and promoting geocaching as a worthwhile family-oriented outdoor activity.
Membership into the association is free. Members are able to post in the forums and add pictures to the photo gallery. Manitoba teams are tracked on their milestone and top 10 lists. As of March, 2011, there are 1145 registered teams, 1059 are Manitoba residents with recent visits (within the last year) from 514 registered teams of which 480 are Manitoba teams.
The association regularly holds events and contests for members to meet and participate in geocaching and is a central gathering point for discussions. Members are invited to join our mailing list to be notified of upcoming meetings, events and other topics. Everyone is also welcome to browse the forums for current topics of interest or stop by the chat room for some friendly bantering. Members are also able to attend free seminars on geocaching which include basic "How to Geocache" information, advanced hiding techniques, how to use software tools to assist with geocaching, and basic HTML coding techniques to enhance their hiding pages.
The MBGA was created on March 5, 2005 at the inaugural Annual General Meeting in Winnipeg, MB. The association is governed by a set of bylaws and managed by a board of directors which is elected annually.
The MBGA has been featured in local newspaper articles[1] and television news segments. The Manitoba Geocaching Association was also represented during and provided input into the Parks Canada Geocaching Policy[2] in 2006 and with the Manitoba Provincial Parks Geocaching Policy[3] from 2007 to 2010.
