It once continued through to Limerick and also had branches to Valencia Harbour, Kenmare, Kanturk, Castleisland, however these closed during the 1960s.
At Tralee there were small sidings that formed an informal link to the Tralee and Dingle Light Railway, and by reversing into the goods yard at Tralee, the line to Fenit could be used.
A peculiar arrangement at Killarney is in place, in which trains from Mallow enter Killarney, which is a dead-end. Trains continuing to Tralee, then have to reverse until they reach the junction, before changing direction again to continue westwards.
