Nikolai PaninFormer coach A. Zhdanov Maya Petrovna Belenkaya (Russian: Майя Петровна Беленькая; born 1931) is a former Soviet figure skater. With her partner Igor Moskvin, she was the 1953-1954 USSR national champion. She skated both in singles and pairs.[1]
Maya Belenkaya was born in Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) and lived there throughout her whole life.[1] She survived the Siege of Leningrad and was awarded the "Defense of Leningrad" medal.[1] She started skating at the age of 12 in the Pioneers Palace. At first she was coached by A. Zhdanov. Belenkaya was two-time USSR national champion (1952, 1953), three-time silver medalist (1950, 1955, 1956) and bronze national medalist.[1]
She coached numerous singles and pairs skaters to national titles, most notably Alexei Mishin and Liudmila Smirnova / Andrei Suraikin.[1]
