Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad

Mahatma Gandhi International School (MGIS) in Mithakali, Ahmedabad, India, is the first authorized IB World School in Gujarat, having obtained that status in November 2002.[1] Another school in the city, Ahmedabad International School, became an IB World School in November 2003.[2] MGIS is also registered with the University of Cambridge International Examinations.[3] The school enrolls approximately 200 students from the local community as well as expatriate children.[4]

History

The school was given its current name when Pascal Chazot and Anjou Musafir took it over from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in 1999.[5] The building in which the school is located was donated by the family of Dr. Bihari Kanhaiyalal[6] The school is authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme since November 2002 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme since March 2005.[7]

Academics and extra-curricular activities

The school follows the Cambridge International Primary Programme for classes 1-5, the IB MYP Programme for classes 6-10 and the IB Diploma Programme for classes 11-12.[8] The school offers French as a second language to its students in the Diploma programme.[9] The school has links with other international schools in the world such as L'Ecole Aujourd'hui and Lycée Saint Germain en Laye from Paris and Mercedes College from Adelaide.[10][11][12]

MGIS has a boys and a girls football team that have competed in tournaments in Ahmedabad.[13][14] Students have been selected to represent Gujarat at the state level.[15] MGIS students have participated in Karate tournaments, winning medals at the National Karate Championship held in Mumbai in 2008.[16]
